Who Are We?

The SMK Matang Jaya Robotics Club was established in 2007.   We are the official robotics team for SMK Matang Jaya, and we are actively participating in the National Robotics Competition organized by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

The year 2007 also marked the clubs first serious participation in the NRC. 7 teams were selected and were asked to participate in the NRC for the Sarawak Zone (Zone L). 2 teams formed the RCX team (competing in the RCX category), while another 3 teams made up the NXT team which participated in the NXT category. The club also participated in the Open Category competition with 2 teams. As the Robotics Club falls under the category of Academic-based club, therefore it is open to all SMK Matang Jaya students. However, out of the 70 club members, only about 28 were selected to represent the school in the NRC 2007.

In 2008, the club was re-organized to make it more focused. This is basically due to the fact that experience from the year 2007 saw the club neglecting certain aspect in terms of preparation and organisation.
In line of the change, The Robotics Club was renamed to SMK Matang Jaya Robotics Team or MJROBOTICS. The change of name is expected to reflect the MJROBOTICS’s emphasis on using knowledge and science as a huge foundation in robotics, while at the same time creating a brand among other teams from other schools. In addition to that, MJROBOTICS is suppose to reflect the team’s goal which is to participate in the NRC on a yearly basis, sending only the best team available to the NRC.
